I also thought that although Cannondale developed the Lefty I thought that all of their technology was openly shared and able to be used by any bike company that wished. Like BB30.
Trek has some issues to work out on some of their Bontrager branded stuff. But from what I learned from speaking to the mountain brand manager at Trek they warrantied all the Session's that were dinged up even though he said they were all cosmetic and the structural integrity of the frames were sound. They just dinged up easy. Hence why they added the aluminum armor to them.
Yeah! Who would ever be upset with themselves after making a mistake. He is one abnormal human being.
Oh and if Trek is already windtesting their Speed Concept bike over and over why not throw the Session in the wind tunnel and see the results.
I talked to John Reilly at TrekWorld this year and he said not one of the frames they warrantied from 2009 actually caused any structural damage to the bike but for piece of mind they added the armor and the deflection. It is funny how perception of a bike can dictate the direction it is designed.
As for the bike itself, every Session 88 I have ever ridden has felt absolutely great. They handle so well and they pedal like a dream.
Man the battle between BMX and MTB seems to always be raging. I wish there was more love between little wheels and big wheels. BMX tricks have always been more elaborate and probably always will be. MTB's at least in the case of slopestyle and free ride just use natural terrain and generally go bigger. MTB is nice because even with a jump style bike you can still DJ and then go ride some gnarly trails. BMX is definitely more urban oriented. Sure you can DJ but you can't really have an enjoyable trail ride on one.
That being said the VOD was pretty sick.
